Connecting with Your Dog

This seminar is designed to help you build a stronger bond and keep a tighter connection with your dog. The workshop is focused on agility handlers and their dogs, but all handler teams are welcome.

Description

This seminar starts with a discussion on connection between you and yours dog.  Topics that are covered include:

  • The definition of connection between you and your dog
  • What connection looks like (and what it doesn’t look like)
  • Why connection is important inside and outside the agility ring
  • Two different types of dog behaviors
  • Potential causes of a disconnection between you and your dog

In the second, working portion of the seminar, you will learn fun games to play with your dog that increase your connection.  We will work on as many games as possible to create and improve the connection between you and your dog based on your dog’s behavior type and your skill set.  These games can be applied to class settings, as well as competition settings.

This workshop is focused on connection with your agility dog, but all handler teams wanting a better connection to their dog are welcome.

What to bring

Please bring the following with you to class:

  • 100 small, super exciting treats for your dog.  These can be purchased from your instructor.  If bringing treats from home, please choose treats that don't crumble.  Cheese, meat, hot dogs, and liver work well.
  • 6-foot leash (no retractable leashes)
  • Flat collar or harness (no prong, pinch, electric, or choke collars)
  • A toy with a short rope or string
  • We recommend a treat pouch.  This can be purchased from your instructor.
