AKC Fast CAT Introduction and Fun Run

FAST CAT® is a timed 100-yard dash where dogs run one at a time, chasing a lure.

Description

FAST CAT® – which stands for Coursing Ability Test – is a timed 100-yard dash where dogs run one at a time, chasing a lure.  It’s over before you know it — and it’s nothing short of awe-inspiring to watch your dog run at top speed, ears back, eyes focused, legs strong.

Each dog will have the opportunity to run twice.  In addition to running, you will be provided instructions on

  • An introduction to understanding the rules and strategy of Fast CAT and Lure Coursing
  • How and when a muzzle is needed.
  • How to acclimate your dog to a muzzle if you plan to race your dog in a group with Lure Coursing
  • How to warm up and cool down your dog
  • Signs of heat stroke
  • How to use a slip lead at the starting line
  • How to keep your dog safe and have fun

Your instructor is an experienced handler of a sighthound that runs both Lure Coursing and Fast CAT trials.

This is an introduction to the sport.  Our track is now AKC FAST CAT regulation length with boundary fencing and a break beam timer.

This event will not earn your dog AKC titles or points.  These events are for fun, to exercise dogs, to build your dog's stamina, to enjoy the company of other dog lovers, and to learn how to run your dog in AKC coursing events.
