AKC Canine Good Citizen
The AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program promotes responsible dog ownership and recognizes well-mannered dogs. Any dog can become a certified “good boy or girl”!
Description
The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) course is a ten-skill training program that’sopen to all dogsthat focuses on teaching essential manners and obedience for at home and in public. CGC is a strong starting point for everyday manners, therapy work, or service work. It helps you and your dog navigate the world calmly, confidently, and respectfully.
Is group class right for your dog? If your dog barks excessively around dogs/people, barks non stop for attention, is fearful of dogs/people, or pulls so hard you can’t walk safely from your car to the classroom, please register for a private lesson before enrolling in a group class.
You’ll work on the 10 CGC skills:
-
Greet a friendly stranger
-
Sit politely for petting
-
Allow brushing and basic handling
-
Walk on a loose leash
-
Move calmly through a crowd
-
Sit, down, and stay in place
-
Come when called
-
Be polite near another dog
-
Ignore common distractions
-
Wait calmly when separated
Your class fee includes a coupon for one free CGC evaluation on a separate test day. To receive the official AKC title, you’ll submit the paperwork to AKC and pay their fee (not included).
