Intro to Odor

Put you dog’s nose to the test!

Description

Introduction to odor will continue the searching that was learned in introduction to nosework, but we will add target odors to our search. The target odors to cover are birch, anise, and clove.

Weather permitting, searches will include interiors, exteriors, vehicles, and containers. Each student will be given a tin of birch to practice with at home.

Prerequisites

Successful completion of Intro to Nose Work or Instructor’s permission

Age of Dog: 6 months and older

Must be crate trained (Dogs will will be in crates in another room while they wait their turn to work!)

What to bring

You will need a flat collar or harness that attaches in the back.  (You don't want to use anything that only has a front attachment because you want your dog to pull toward the scent!)

Additionally,

  • Leash at least 6 feet long
  • 100 small, super exciting treats for your dog. These can be purchased from your instructor. If bringing treats from home, please choose treats that don't crumble. Cheese, meat, hot dogs, and liver work well.
  • A squeaky toy if you have one. A toy with a short rope also works well.
  • We recommend a treat pouch. This can be purchased from your instructor.
