Nose Work Introduction
Make a game out of your dog's favorite activity - sniffing!!
Description
K9 Nose Work allows your dog to have fun doing what they do best!
It is easy to learn and provides a safe way to keep dogs fit and healthy through mental and physical exercise. K9 Nose Work can help your dog build confidence, improve their behavior and obedience, as well as strengthen your bond! Any dog can enjoy the sport, all they need is a passion for following their nose!
In this course, your dog will learn to do a room search with boxes and objects placed in various locations. You will be introduced to the sport of K9 Nose Work which has competitions governed by both AKC Nose Work and the National Association of Canine Scent Work (NACSW). Your instructor's dog competes at the Elite level with NACSW.
Prerequisites
Age of Dog: 6 months and older
Must be crate trained (Dogs will will be in crates in another room while they wait their turn to work!)
Registration dependent on instructor evaluation.
What to bring
You will need a flat collar or harness that attaches in the back. (You don't want to use anything that only has a front attachment because you want your dog to pull toward the scent!)
Additionally,
- Leash at least 6 feet long
- 100 small, super exciting treats for your dog. These can be purchased from your instructor. If bringing treats from home, please choose treats that don't crumble. Cheese, meat, hot dogs, and liver work well.
- A squeaky toy if you have one. A toy with a short rope also works well.
- We recommend a treat pouch. This can be purchased from your instructor.
