Intermediate Manners - Teamwork and Connection
Building skills using games and toys to help your dog connect and work with you. This class will go beyond basic manners and focus on building a strong connection between you and your dog!
Description
Learning to have FUN with your dog is an important part of becoming a team! The following steps are building Confidence, Focus, and Trust between you and your dog.
If you are interested in pursuing advanced obedience skills, Dog Sports (other than Agility), Service Dog, and/or Therapy Dog training programs, this is this class for you!
Skills Covered in this class:
- Recall Games (so your dog wants to come back to you when called)
- Front feet targeting
- Hand Targeting
- Toy Play
- Spin
- Back-up
- Take it (a foundation skill for Tasks/Tricks training)
- Drop it (so your dog doesn’t swallow that mystery treat off the ground)
- Tugging
- Crating Games (to learn to wait for release at doors and in the car)
- Place with Mat (to aid when guests arrive or taking dogs out to new places)
What to bring
- 100 small, super exciting treats for your dog.
- 4 to a 6-foot leash (no retractable leashes)
- Flat collar or harness (no prong, pinch, electric, or choke collars)
- A favorite toy if you have one. A toy with a short rope also works well.
- We recommend a treat pouch. This can be purchased from your instructor.
Prerequisites
Age of Dog: 5 months and older. Dogs can start at any age.
Prerequisite: Dog Manners, Puppy Manners, AKC STAR Puppy or equivalent.
If you have completed puppy class but your pup needs a little maturity and more work on the basics, this is the perfect class for you!
