Beginner Dog Obedience & Manners
Teach your dog to follow basic commands and behave well at home and in public, using positive training methods.
Description
For dogs that are already familiar with some of these commands, students are taught how to eliminate the verbal cue, add distractions, distance, and or duration.
Skills include:
- Attention - Name and Watch Me
- Sit
- Down
- Stand
- Leave it
- Drop it
- Introduction to loose leash walking, including go-left and go-right
- Stay
- Waiting at thresholds
- Recall
- Settle on a mat
- Polite people greetings
- Tricks - spin, rollover and shake
Topics discussed or demonstrated:
- Strategies for working around a variety of people and dogs
- Common challenges such as jumping and getting very excited in new environments
- Sight distractions – out in public and in your home environment for practicing with distractions. This includes utilizing family members and props.
- Sound distractions
All training is positive and designed to build the bond between you and your dog. A clicker/marker word is used to mark or precisely indicate when your dog has done a specific behavior. The dog is rewarded with praise, food treats, and toys. Prong, shock, and choke chains are not needed. Harnesses will be discussed.
Skills are practiced with games.
