Service Dog Manners 3 - Public Access and Tasks

You have trained hard and are ready for very complex environments. This course will prep you for buffet lines, movie theatres, airports, live concerts, and more.

Description

You have passed the Canine Good Citizen in a new environment without treats and have been working with your dog for about a year.  Let's get you ready to take the public access test.  This course is a combination of classroom exercises and outings.  It will cover advanced situations.  Your dog must be solid on all the basics and very comfortable working in close proximity to other dogs and many people.

This course is designed to help you feel calm and confident with your dog in a variety of public settings. Outings will be to locations typically only open to service dogs and or set up with special permission from the facility (airport, movie, HEB Center).

This course is 6 weeks long.  It includes outings lasting approximately 1 hour.

Typical locations include:

  • The Dog Alliance campus with food around, events, buffet lunch
  • Garden Centers

Evaluation and Planning:  By the end of this course, you and your dog partner should be able to pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen Community evaluation in an unfamiliar location without treats.  This course may be repeated.  If a student takes the course a second time, the AKC Canine Good Citizen Community Optional Exercises will be used for testing.  A written evaluation and plan is provided at the end of the course, every time it is taken.

The goal of this course is to get you ready for the Dog Alliance Public Access and Task Test and full certification as a service dog team.
