Intro to Disc Dog

Connect with your dog and build teamwork with the fun and exciting sport of Disc Dog!

Description

Have you ever wanted to learn the exciting sport of Disc DogJoin us and learn how to play the game of frisbee! You will be taught how to throw the disc, build disc drive with your pup, disc game rules and regulations, and much more! No equipment or experience throwing a disc is needed.

Your dog will need to have a strong toy drive, recall in an open space, and be crate trained.

Toy drive – a desire to play fetch or tug; you will be working on retrieval skills so the dog simply must engage with a toy that you have(everything else will be built in class)!

Recall(in an open space) - as a class, we will work one dog at a time, but we will be mostly in the grove area and the back open field.  If recall is an issue for you and your pup, accommodations can be made using a long line.

Crate trained – able to settle in a crate willingly

If you have any questions about these requirements, please email us!

NOTE: This class is intended to take place outdoors. Please be prepared to attend class on a variety of uneven surfaces. You will want to wear comfortable shoes and clothes to move around in. We are happy to make accommodations if necessary.  Email us if you have any questions!

We will cover everything you know to get started playing with your pup at home orventuring into competition!

  • Human Disc Mechanics - how to throw a frisbee, type of discs, rollers vs air catches, accuracy, distance.

  • Dog Disc Mechanics - disc bite work, hand offs, dropping disc at distance, positioning, tracking.

  • Rules & Regulations for the sport - learn the various disc venues & topics (UpDog, Toss n Fetch, freestyle, etc)

Everything will be taught using positive reinforcement methods revolving mainly around using the frisbee as a reward, but also using treats as reward for various skills.
